Pizza Sauce

Make your own pizza night is an amazing date night idea, a dinner with friends, or even a way to let little ones help out with a meal! You can easily pick up a fresh pack of pizza dough at Central Market, Trader Joe's, or your favorite local Italian market. You can even go the extra step and make your own dough. No matter how you do it, I highly recommend making fresh pizza sauce, something about the freshness really elevates any home pizza night!

Yields: 4 cups

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1 32-ounce can of crushed tomatoes

  • 3 tablespoons of fresh basil, roughly chopped

  • Kosher salt

Directions:

  1. Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the oregano, garlic, basil, and red pepper flakes and cook, stirring, until the garlic is golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes.

  2. Add the tomatoes and 1/2 teaspoon of salt and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer, stirring occasionally, until fairly thick, 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your tomatoes. Enjoy!
