I'm sure there are some people out there who have only experienced figs when they're dried in things like Fig Newtons or in preserves and jam. I used to be one of those people, and let me tell you guys - the second half of your life begins when you realize how delicious fresh figs are!
One of my aunts down in the Texas Hill Country used to have a whole grove of fig trees, and she would make these roasted figs with goat cheese that were not only decadent and full of rich flavors, but also super easy to make for a fancy appetizer!
Ingredients
6-8 fresh figs
1.5 oz of goat cheese
Freshly cracked pepper
Honey
Directions
Preheat your oven on the High Broil setting
Wash and cut the figs in half, place them cut side up on a baking sheet, add a good chunk of goat cheese in the center of each fig, crack some fresh pepper over all of the figs
Place the baking sheet on a middle rack in the oven until the cheese is melty and browning slightly, about 8-9 minutes - make sure the cheese isn't sliding off!
Drizzle honey over the figs on a serving dish, serve them while they're still warm, and enjoy the decadent goodness!
